We recently worked with Fulton Hogan on the new pedestrian boardwalk being constructed in Mangawhai.
The new boardwalk will provide pedestrian access from Mangawhai Village to Mangawhai Heads. It is now nearly ready to open and will be widely used by the Mangawhai community!
The new boardwalk is 3.6m wide and is constructed out of timber. It includes a 50m span bridge over the estuary which required piles and then spanning from pile to pile with wooden beams.
We worked in with Brett Vermeulen, a project engineer at Fulton Hogan, to help design access to make the boardwalk and bridge.
As Brett said himself:
“Working within the mangroves and over the water served us some challenges. One of the major challenges was creating a safe working platform for our laborer’s.”
“Moving closer to the estuary and spanning over the estuary became more challenging as we came into deeper water. This is where SafeSmart were able to assist us.”
The team here at SafeSmart Access worked with Fulton Hogan and provided scaffolding designs and plans for a safe working platform.
Fulton Hogan then judicated the designs from other suppliers.

We then worked with Limitless Scaffolding who are based in Mangawhai.
Limitless Scaffolding completed the installation of the birdcage scaffolding over the estuary resulting in a safe working platform for the guys and a successful outcome!
We made it easy for Fulton Hogan to make a decision as we sorted engineering and design and then put them in touch with the scaffolding company, so they didn’t have to find an appropriate scaffolding company for the project themselves.
We made it easy for Limitless Scaffolding to do their part in the project as we provided concise plans to follow that were approved by Fulton Hogan and were able to supply any specialist parts to complete the project.
